Thankful: Outgoing 2022 Housing First President

As the year winds down, our owner James has wrapped up his time as the 2022 President of Housing First Minnesota. James had an incredible year serving on the board; he was honored to work alongside other members and the Housing First staff. Our local building industry is tight-knit and special - we are fortunate to be a part of it!Here are four things James learned while serving as Housing First President.

  1. It's More Expensive to Build in MNDid you know Minnesota is currently 60,000 houses short of inventory? We need builders, city officials, and legislators to work together to make building homes at an affordable price easier! That is a goal of Housing First and something James worked tirelessly towards this past year. It is less expensive to build in Wisconsin than in Minnesota, mainly due to regulatory costs.

  2. We Need TradespeopleWe need to get more people involved in the trades! Training to be a carpenter, plumber, or electrician can be a great alternative to a traditional four-year college for young people. You often take on far less debt and can earn a good living as a tradesperson!

  3. Presidential Teleprompters are HandyJames was nervous about speaking at Housing First's recent Big Night event in front of almost 1,000 people, but he found it really fun once he got up there. What helped to calm his nerves? The presidential-style teleprompters - he said they were awesome!

  4. Our Industry is IncredibleJames was honored to be chosen by the incredible staff at Housing First and leaders throughout the industry! He truly enjoyed being part of the positive change Housing First is making in our industry. Our building community never fails to impress us at every level.
